About the artist:
Rene Heunis is a South African photographer and Textile designer, whose practice explores the relationship between lived environments, identity, memory, and creative becoming. Working primarily through photography.
Her fine art photography practice is informed by an interest in the ways people experience and respond to the environments they inhabit.
Drawing on personal encounters with natural landscapes, cultural spaces, unfamiliar places, and changing environments, her work considers how experiences of belonging, displacement, adaptation, and connection can be communicated visually.
Alongside her fine-art and research-based practice, she works as an event and wedding photographer. In these contexts, photography becomes a means of documenting meaningful moments, personal connections, and shared experiences.
Her approach combines an awareness of composition, atmosphere, and visual storytelling with a focus on capturing genuine interactions and the distinctive character of each occasion.
